Symptoms of Constipation

Constipation is a gastrointestinal problem that affects a lot many people around the world. A person who is suffering from constipation will experience hardened and unusual stool, problem in stool evacuation, and pain in bowel movements.

Many a times we normally ignore the constipation symptoms – it is not right to do so in spite of the problem disappearing soon.  When the problem is short term case of constipation, people tend to leave it untreated.  However, if the symptoms do not intensify and you notice a normal bowel movement within few days, then there is no long term health issue. There are times when the symptoms continue and the bowel functioning is not normal then it can be a serious medical concern because it may lead to the buildup of toxic products in the colon and along the walls of the gastrointestinal tract. Chronic constipation can cause problems such as intestines rupturing, rectal bleeding, etc.

Some of the common symptoms of constipation are:  abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, hardened and unusual stool, problem in stool evacuation, loss of appetite, nausea, headache and passing gas.

There are various ways to relieve constipation – eating fibre rich food, drinking enough of fluids, exercise will help keep the bowel movements regular.  Herbal laxative is also recommended as it helps alleviate constipation problems.
