Pregnancy and Constipation!!

Constipation is a common complaint during pregnancy. Most of the pregnant women often suffer from constipation due to several reasons including drastic change in hormones level. However another cause is that your body tends to retain water which leads to constipation. Furthermore constipation occurs when the baby grows inside the uterus disturbing digestive functions.

During early pregnancy you experiences low appetite which results in gas formation causing constipation. Certain medicines prescribed to pregnant women including iron and calcium supplements usually increase the problem of constipation. However this problem can be minimized by following certain steps:

• Try drinking more water, juices and fluids as they keep your body hydrated and prevents constipation. Drink at least 2 glasses of warm water in the morning empty stomach; it will remove all toxins from your body.

• Eat fruits which are juicy and have high fiber content i.e. Orange, grapes, bananas, plums etc. These fruits stimulate the removal of waste from the body

• Try eating ginger powder in food as much as possible as it improves digestion. Ginger helps in curbing conditions like acidity, gas and constipation.

• Drink juices and soups made from vegetables and fruits as they provide nutrients, energy and essential water to the body.

• Take dates on a regular basis. Dates regulate blood level, provides strength and iron to the body. They are highly useful in relieving constipation.
